   I’m certainly glad some shoppers were satisfied with their purchase, but frankly, I can’t fathom their satisfaction. This costume is very poorly sewn. It’s as if because it’s not actual clothing then it doesn’t have to be put together adequately. I bought this for my daughter for a school history presentation. She couldn’t wear it without my having to make absolutely necessary alterations to cover something, and I’m not quite sure what, that ran the entire perimeter on the inside where the bodice attaches to the skirt. The fabric was horribly sharp and made terrible scratches on my daughter’s skin in only a few minutes, the whole time while she was complaining about the pain. Another mild, yet still unacceptable problem, is the fact that the ribbon supplied to lace up the bodice in front was barely long enough to lace all 10 eyelets. The product picture shows that only a select number of eyelets are laced. I thought this unusual, but really didn’t consider it further. When the costume arrived, it was laced exactly like the picture, but when I tried to lace it correctly, the ribbon was barely long enough to tie a proper bow at the bottom. This costume was far too expensive to have to be fixed in order to be able to wear. I would have returned it, but I didn’t have time to replace it with anything else so I chose to make do and repair it myself. And I also paid an exorbitant amount for express shipping which I deeply regret almost as much as making the purchase in the first place. Personally, I’ll never purchase another costume from California Costumes.

   This costume was perfect for colonial day for my 5th grader who was assigned to be Betsy Ross. She’s pretty tall for a 10 year old – 5’1″ and just over 100#. I ordered the ladies XS and it was perfect. An inch or two longer than it needed to be, but that was very easily managed . She looked great and really enjoyed wearing it. As a sewer myself, not making this costume was hard for me, but when Colonial Day and Halloween are a few days apart, something had to give and this was it. It’s made from a relatively thin double knit fabric, which we actually appreciated on a warm day in Southern CA. She said that the waist seam and the seams on the chest were pretty itchy but with a tank top and short underneath, that was easily solved and she was quite comfortable for the 4 hours she had to wear it. The netting on the hips fluffed out quite nicely with a few shots of steam from the iron. For the price (not the least of which was my sanity), it was well worth it!

   There is netting on both sides of the hips that are sewn into the waistline which makes it extremely scratchy. I will have to wear leggings underneath anyway since the skirt material is very thin. I didn’t like the way the hips bulged out because of the netting, so I just cut it off. But it is a costume so I did not expect much. It is a cute costume with nice details. I ordered a small and I am 5’5″ , 138 lbs with an athletic build. it fits fine and is the perfect length. The bow did fall off of the cap as soon as I opened it, but I will just glue it back on.

   I purchased this for a middle school student for a class presentation on George and Martha Washington. It fits perfectly and is absolutely adorable. The material appears to be of good quality and is not see-through. She said that the bodice is itchy and will need to wear a shirt under it. The skirt and very light and comfortable, but she will need to wear leggings under it for warmth.I feel that the costume is high enough quality to get quite a bit of use out of and she plans to wear it for Halloween parties as well this year.Overall I am very pleased with my purchase.

   The dress is beautiful but I definitely got a dress that someone had returned. When I opened it, the sleeves were still inside out, front tie was only strung through 3 random holes, and it was wadded up rather than folded in an unmarked plastic bag. The part that really disappointed me however is that the flag that it comes with was printed incorrectly. It’s only a one sided flag and the blue box with stars was in the upper right hand corner and there were 14 stripes instead of 13. This was for a school project where my daughter was dressing up like Betsy Ross and she had hoped to use the flag on her display board. It was completely unusable. I bought an adult XS for my daughter who wears a 14/16 and it fit perfectly.

   My daughter had to be Martha Washington for a school play. She normally wears a medium but based on the reviews I ordered a large thinking I could alter it if I had to. It fits her great and she looks super cute! She said it is even comfortable.

   The costume is very nice. Unfortunately, the size is too small. I ordered my regular US size. I was not able to use it for my event.
