This is a great little pirate sword. Our 4 year old son had a largely pirate-themed Christmas, and we bought separate “pirate apparel” as opposed to buying a costume set. This is the pirate sword we chose, and we were not disappointed. Shipping speed and packaging were just as they should have been, even in the mad rush in the couple of weeks just before Christmas. We didn’t want a toy sword that was exceptionally LONG, because our 4 year old son is rather small. This one was just right. He can wear it around the waist without it actually dragging on the floor beside him, or tripping him up. It’s got a lot of fun, “realistic” detail, for being constructed of plastic and imitation leather (on the belt). We liked that the belt can simply tie on around the waist. It’s simple enough for the 4 year old to put it on himself and not become frustrated with intricate buttons. The only downside I can think of is that after about two weeks, one side of the belt ripped almost all the way through, and this sword was not used in a particularly rough or rowdy manner (not even a “real” play sword fight), so I figured it would hold up longer. However, for the price, and the fact that my husband was able to sort of McGuyver it and “repair” it with some leather cord (which actually adds to the “pirate” look), I would still highly recommend this to use as a prop, to complete a fantastical pirate costume or just for fun pretend play at home. Aside from our son and other children who have had fun with this product, their father tends to enjoy brandishing it as well, just before our Friday night pillow fights. 😉

I ordered this to complete my pirate costume, it was perfect! I was a little skeptical on the size because most of the reviews were posted regarding children but it worked out well. The sword was thick and was pretty good quality. (As a nanny I don’t know if I would let a young child play with this. I could see a sword fight ending badly because someone got whacked with this.) Overall, it was a great costume sword and I received tons of compliments on it! My only complaint was that the sword would sometimes get stuck in the skull.

This was an awesome sword. The skull is a holder so you are able to remove the sword from the holder. It was a fabulous addition to my costume!

Well, first this is really cool looking and was all awesome except the belt’s lack of functionality pulled down the review. It is some cheap material sewn onto the hard plastic. So, within hours of play it was hanging by said thread. That said we have only use of the sword. Somehow we’re going to have to attach this to something else for it to be used as a belt. Other than this – the little guy loved it and killed a lot of imaginary monsters. If you know a MacGyver trick to attach the belt, get this one because the sword and the skull are of a sturdy plastic that will definitely hold up to even the most rambunctious of boys’ imaginations.

The sward and skeleton holster are made of plastic but the plastic is malleable and durable. Should last a long time. Minus one star because the Skeleton head was bent a bit and the sword doesn’t slide in that easily.

Cool idea but I had the same issue as some others – it broke on the first use. Bought it for Gasparilla and it didn’t make it through the whole day (the skull came partially disconnected from the belt so then it was kind of pointless and I just carried the sword around). The sword is kind of hard to get in and out of the holder as well. But, for the price, it’s a cool toy and honestly if you’re crafty at all you could probably just reinforce with some super glue or something like that and it would be ok.
