   I’m not fabric expert so I don’t know the name of the material used to make this boa. It’s some sort of chiffon or something and the edges are all raw. So they unravel a little (or a lot) and leave little strands all over your clothes and the clothes of everyone around you. I guess this isn’t too weird because I had a feather boa that shed like mad too.This boa is also a little bit itchy and I wouldn’t say it looks so much like seaweed. I’m thinking of maybe adding some more leaves and things in a different, more “neck friendly” fabric but I’ll probably be too lazy and run out of time. Oh well… you get what you pay for

   I almost bought a cheap local version but it was such a great price on Amazon that I purchased it here and I’m so glad I did! The boa is super light and airy so when wrapped around my 5 year-olds neck and shoulders it doesn’t suffocate her. It’s made of silky mesh material that is only cut, not hemmed, so it does shed little tiny fibers if played with roughly. My daughter loves it and it does add a touch of seaweed-look to the costume.

   This really gilded the lily for her Halloween costume. It has done double duty with her dress up stuff. It really looks like stylized, pretty seaweed. It has held up well. I can’t remember what exactly I paid for it, but I remember it being reasonable, which is a plus as well. It’s nice not to get raked over the coals for everything your kid needs!

   It tends to shed quite a bit after wearing. Maybe my fault since she said it was itchy on the back of the neck so I wrapped it around her pony tail and wore it up in her hair. When she had enough; put it on me and it was all over my black t-shirt. Light weight and sturdy. Didn’t dislike at all, it looked great with the mermaid costume. Thanks

   That being said, it is a cute accessory to a mermaid costume. I used mine as a wrap around my trident rather than on my person to avoid all the little shred bits. I also shook it a lot prior to use, to get as much loose thread bits and vacuum them up. It is shimmery which may not show in the picture.

   It will do the trick to complete the mermaid outfit I purchased, but it needed a little more sparkle.I went to Joanne’s Crafts and purchased a bit of light green sequin braid and cut it in small piecesand tied it into the boa, now it’s exactly as I would like it! If you’re not into sparkle you’ll think it’sperfect the way it is!

   I purchased for my 3 year old to wear with her mermaid dress up for pretend play. This is more adult or older child sized and is too long for her. It’s a really cute accessory though!

   just as described
